Kit Challenge to Myself – Week 3 (click to comment)

Focus, focus, focus…. hard to do with all the interruptions of life – hey?  I suppose if all I had to do was create and design, this challenge would be no a slam dunk.  One day, some day, God’s way…..

So here is the beginnings of my success to the challenge: Tigger- that’s Ridi-ku-lous! I really like how it came out.
Tigger
The second one is all about cooking – and if you are a frog fan… then that is a bonus!!  Working on a another page that will compliment this for those two page layout fans – but did not get it quite finished.  Chose friends this weekend over full focus scrapping – totally worth it (although I am now a little behind).  On to week 4!

Well – I have my largest show months in October/November coming up and that means I need to make a lot of kits for people to buy – so in preparation for this, I am challenging myself to make at least 3 kits a week.  I will post them as I create them.  Would love to know your thoughts and comments.  Also, if you have ever purchased one of our kits, don’t forget to post it in our gallery at Time 2 scrapbook website.

I know – you are surrounded by so many cool embellishments and papers and tools and, and, and you still don’t have that one paper in the color you need or a small trinket to make your page pop!! This is where I am almost daily!

There is a thin line between store owner and crafter when it comes to what to stock and what to buy for crafting and products.  There are so many great things out there that I don’t have in stock and I WANT IT!  But, how do I justify (especially in the tougher economy right now) buying more things?  What are you wanting to buy as my customer and willing to spend money on.  The catch is, I have to spend my money first, HOPING that you will spend your money next.

The challenge is and always will be – how can I use what I have before buying more?  When you start a project – get inspired by reminding yourself what you have.  Look through your papers or embellishments.  Pick a color theme and use what you have.  Don’t forget to check your ribbons and fibers – this is where I usually get stuck.  I end up not having the perfect ribbon to finish the project.

Also, it may be buying something that will change or enhance what you have to make it more versatile, like Alcohol Inksor FiberScraps TintZ.  These two products will change the hue (or coloring) of an existing product to make it match what you are working on.  How about a new tool?  Yes, I know, you are trying not to buy more, but there are some tools that if they replace an older existing tool and give you three or more additional tools in one, it may be worth the step.  The Crafter’s Companion is a new one I am trying out and I think it will be used more and more as I play!  It has 10 functions in one!  What tool will this replace for me?  Well probably nothing, but it will allow me to make cards faster, make my own envelopes and boxes and also give me embossing options without digging out my embosser each time.

I guess – bottom line, creativity is not just the beautiful project you create, it is also how you got there to make it.  Enjoy your journey!

Jungle Front CoverWanted to post one of the projects I completed for the Christmas season.  This book Jungle Front CoverJungle Front Coverwas fun to create and make and I was very happy that Mary (my customer) enjoyed it so much.  I look forward to seeing it with photos in it!!

The front was cut from acrylic and I used Bazzill paper to outline the edges and added ink and rub-ons to make it all “pop”.  Basicgrey “Archaic” Paper and Basicgrey Archaic Rub-ons were used through this project.  Mary wJungle Pocket_Taganted some blues and reds as well throughout, so I used those as accents with the paper.

The back cover was hand drawn and then cut-out using my “rotozip”. Worked great! Thought of this at the last moment so now my head is spinning with more ideas to use this tool!!!  Oh no!! More ideas!!Jungle Back CoverJungle Back Cover

Pockets and Tags are through out and of course can’t make anything without my trusty Wishblade!!  The lions, monkeys, tiger and elephant are from a disk for the wishblade but Jungle Back Coverthe grass, palms, and leaves are hand created and designed by me and then cut-out using my Wishblade.

Love to know your thoughts!!  Thank you for looking!

Wishblade – My Dream Machine….

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

Well – taking a few moments to talk with you… December is in full speed and there is no time for rest – actually maybe even sleep!  I have nine orders I am working on to complete before the 20th from special orders plus – this year, we decided to make gifts for friends and family and I am in full swing decorating the house for Christmas – which if you know me, this is no small task.  It takes about 40 hours to complete. And if that is not enough, I am also a musician and have 7 singing and orchestra gigs between now and 12/21/08.

Now all that said – what does Wishblade have to do with this?  EVERYTHING!!  I love this machine – dread the day it breaks – and did I mention, I love this machine!!  I tell my husband that regularly as well, and he smiles and chuckles.  One of the special orders I am working on is my special designed dominoe sets.  And I have an order for Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs just to name a few.  I had to come up with a design that would work on this small surface and didn’t really want to work with transfers on these two sets - so this is where the Wishblade came in.  I reviewed the official logo for ideas and came up with similar design that I am amazed how well it came out.  I drew it out in my Wishblade software and picked the colors of paper and wow!  Anyway, wanted to share how they came out.  Let me know your thoughts and if you have a wishblade, some of the things you have done.  If you would like to check out other dominoe sets completed, go to our website here or to place a special order – just email me at amy@time2scrapbook.com.

DominoesThanks for spending time with me!!
